Messerspezialist
Messerspezialist is a German specialist retailer of kitchen knives and knife accessories that sells its range through the online shop messerspezialist.de. It is operated by Wimmer und Dressler GbR, based in Zehbitz (town of Südliches Anhalt, Saxony-Anhalt).
Messerspezialist operates in the segment of specialist kitchen knife retail. Its range covers European, Japanese and Chinese kitchen knives from major brands and smaller, craft-based makers, as well as sharpening tools, knife storage, cutting boards and spice mills. It ships to Germany and 23 other European countries, and also acts as general importer of two Japanese knife brands for the specialist trade.
Messerspezialist acts as a retailer and importer; the brands it carries belong to their respective manufacturers. The shop is not to be confused with the industrial gases group Messer (Messer Group), which has no connection to kitchen knives despite the shared name element (“Messer” is German for knife).

History of Messerspezialist
Source: About us (Über uns), messerspezialist.de
Messerspezialist was founded in Leipzig in 1999. According to its owners, Matthias Wimmer and Christian Dressler, the business grew out of their interest as amateur cooks in Japanese kitchen knives; they went on to build contacts with makers in Japan and later in other countries. Today the company is based in Zehbitz (town of Südliches Anhalt) in Saxony-Anhalt.
Alongside well-known brands, Messerspezialist deliberately carries products from smaller, craft-based workshops in Solingen and Japan. The owners say they want to help preserve traditional knife-making techniques.
